I purchased a Samsung HTZ320 home theater system on Saturday. We watched four movies on it in four days, and then on Tuesday the tray refused to open. I called Samsung and they offered to have me ship it for repair (and keep it for who knows how long). They would not replace it, so I returned it for a refund to the retailer I purchased it from.
I cannot recommend that anyone buy ANYTHING made by Samsung. Their products stink, as does their customer service.

I had a good surround sound system that died. While I get sound around, it all sounds the same. Not Dolby, like in a theatre. Plays DVDs fine. No problem with picture. But really unhappy with sound. one to two stars.

I got this system as a gift for my in-laws and it would be great, except the DVD player seems very particular about the DVD’s and has lots of problems playing many of the DVD’s we try to play. I’m not sure why the system seems so picky, but even discs that are not scratched or smudged will sometimes give us trouble. And usually in the same spot each time. Other DVD players will cruise right through that spot without problem which makes me think that the Samsung player is very finicky.
I have a couple of other Samsung DVD players and am seeing similar behavior, including one Blu-Ray unit that has problems. I also have a Sony Playstation 3 as a blu-ray player and it gives me NO PROBLEMS on the same discs.
I also have a couple of Samsung LCD flatscreen tvs and they are FLAWLESS.
So my recommendation is to use Samsung for your TV, but find a different DVD player…

I purchased this to get clearer sound from TV and DVDs. I was told that it was very easy to set up. Not! I ended up having to have a TV guy come out to set it up so that I could get surround sound from TV and DVD player. Still can’t get surround sound on Roku Player. The DVD picture quality is slightly fuzzy, lacking contrast, maybe not set up totally properly. The TV guy charged $80 to set it all up and spent over four hours. It was not an easy setup. If I had a Samsung person come out, it would have been $150 for the first hour and $150 for anything over one hour, even one minute over!!!!
Samsung support wasn’t very helpful when I tried to set up by myself in the beginning. They also gave me wrong information as to which unit I needed to not have the wires go across the room, which was either going to be $100 or $150.
I ended up having to purchase a separate unit (SWA-4100) in order to not have the wires have to go across the room. This was $149. I am waiting for it in the mail. I first got the SWA-4000 that Samsung told me I needed to work with this system, but when I received it, it turned out to be the wrong unit and I needed the SWA-4100. Samsung support was not good, I’m sorry to say.
I would pass on this and get something completely different if I could do it over again.
UPDATE: I did finally receive the SWA-4100 and it blew up so I sent that one back and got another one, which was not working and defective. In speaking with tech support at Samsung, I found that the SWA-4000 works with this sound system, which is $50 less. I have since received the SWA-4000 and it seems to be working okay. So all is finally working.
Still would not recommend this sound system unless you are a super electronics whiz!!!

Great system! Easy to setup, customer service was very helpful when I had a question about hooking the system up for TV sound. No issues.
