There were no light on the machine after plug in.

After calling for support from Bose, they agreed to replace a new one, so I have returned it.

In the room I placed it in, the sound did not “surround” me as advertised. Be sure to check with Bose as to the room specifications before buying. The speakers sound good, but they are not what you expect. Good for a smaller room.

The primary appeal is the clean uncluttered look and ease of use, compared to surround systems, especially one with a receiver and wired rear channel speakers. You MUST get the speaker stands, floor or TV platform versions. The stands made a huge difference in sound clarity. Without them the sound is poor, you’ll want to return it. With the stands the sound is excellent but does not have any detectable surround/rear channel effects, they shouldn’t even mention surround selling this, because there is none. Speaker wire runs inside the stand which looks great. Like all Bose products it is overpriced 50% and almost never is discounted heavily. $400 would be perfect. Still, highly recommended if you don’t mind the price.

  4. There are audiophiles who will say that the Bose cinemate II series system does not give you true surround sound. They are absolutely right! What this system does give you, is a clean 3:2;1 sound that for most of us will suffice when watching your favorite movies on DVD. The beauty of this system, is the stream line set up, that only takes minutes, and the clean look of only two front speakers and a heavy duty sub-woofer, without the headache of rewiring the room for rear channel speakers. The Bose cinemate hooks up directly into your TV via a very small module, without having to use a surround sound receiver. The sound is a 100% improvement over tradtional TV speakers. A simple remote lets you turn it on and off, and control the volume. The Bose sub-woofer when comparing it to my old panasonic is like comparing a tin can to a sherman tank. The Bose unit is heavy and well made, compared to the latter, which feels like an empty shoe box. The unit can easily rock the room if you so desire when playing a digital blu-ray dvd movie. If you want to drop a cd into your dvd player, or hook up an ipod, the cinemate can also serve as a sound system. If you are looking for a true high-def digital 5;1 surround system, then this is not for you. However, if you perfer a well made system, that affords you above average sound, and a clean small system look, without the hassle of a major wiring setup, then you should consider the Bose Cinemate II series as your primary TV sound system. Although pricey, this system is all quality, and in my opinion a sound system worth checking out.

  5. R. A. Meyers says:

I was looking for a simple, basic sound system to complement my new Samsung 55UNB8500 LED television. We didn’t want or need a full surround sound system, we didn’t want to spend money on a separate receiver, and we didn’t want to run wires all over our family room.

That said, Bose’s Cinemate Series II system fit our needs precisely. The sound is rich and noticeably superior to the relevant alternatives that I considered (e.g., various “sound bars”). The system is also really easy to install.

My only gripe about this product is the price. $600 is a lot to pay for such a basic system — and as nice as the system is, I’m not convinced that it’s really worth $600 to most consumers. We rationalized paying the price, because I’d just negotiated a really good price on our new TV, and when we applied that savings to the cost of the Cinemate sound system, we were still under budget for our total “TV setup.” Frankly, we were also getting tired of looking for alternatives. But, standing alone, and given how basic the system is, I think the system is overpriced by $100-ish.
